Carol McKie Manning was born in northern Minnesota and now lives in the rural community of Bonsall in north San Diego County. She attended the University of Minnesota and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Art in 1972. She currently divides her time between environmental biology work, a textile conservation business and studio artwork. Her clothing, wall pieces and fabric sculpture feature layers of surface embellishment incorporating various techniques of dying, painting, quilting, appliqué, embroidery and beading. Her pieces have been published in Lark Book’s The Costume-Maker’s Art (cover piece), Fiberart’s Design Book Four, Five and Six, American Craft, Fiberarts Magazine and Shuttle, Spindle and Dyepot. Carol’s artwork has been recognized nationally and internationally including Best of Show awards at: Textile Art Centre’s “Nouvelle Mode”, Chicago, IL; Fine Line Creative Arts Center’s “Uncommon Threads”, St. Charles, IL; Lincoln Center’s “Artwear”, Fort Collins, CO and Bazaar del Mundo’s “Fabric Fantasies”, San Diego, CA. |
